STEM Certification Program Inspired by MIT
Build the Skills. Earn the Certification. Think Like an Engineer.
Ms. Kerri’s journey earning her master’s degree in engineering at MIT, together with Mr. David’s journey earning his Design Thinking certificate from MIT, shaped the philosophy behind our STEM Certification Program. MIT’s mens et manus—“mind and hand”—approach reflects a way of learning that brings rigorous theory together with hands-on problem solving. Engineering is not simply about knowing equations or learning to code. It is about taking what you know, approaching an unfamiliar problem, and figuring out how to make something work.
Drawing from their education and real-world industry experience, Ms. Kerri and Mr. David designed the certification program to begin building this well-rounded engineering foundation at an early age. Through personalized projects in 3D design and printing, soldering, circuits, motors, coding logic, drones, and more, students learn to design, build, test, troubleshoot, and improve their own work.
As students progress into AP courses, college engineering programs, internships, and eventually their careers, they will encounter increasingly advanced theories and technologies. Our goal is to give them the practical foundation to connect those theories to the real world—and the confidence to pick up an unfamiliar engineering project and think, “I can figure this out.
Core Certifications
3D DESIGN & PRINTING
Learn to turn an idea into a digital 3D model, prepare it for fabrication, print it, evaluate the result, and improve the design.
SOLDERING & ELECTRONICS
Develop real hands-on fabrication skills by learning how electronic components are connected and assembled safely and accurately.
CIRCUITS
Go beyond plugging pieces together. Students learn how circuits work, how components interact, and how to diagnose problems when a design doesn't behave as expected.
CODING LOGIC
Build the computational thinking behind programming—sequencing, conditions, loops, variables, debugging, and breaking complex problems into manageable steps.
DRONE TECHNOLOGY
Explore engineering through drones, including flight principles, controls, systems thinking, programming, testing, and real-world applications.
MOTORS & MECHANISMS
Learn how electrical energy becomes motion by building motorized models and machines. Students explore motors, gears, wheels, linkages, and mechanical movement while learning to design, build, test, and troubleshoot systems that move.
Project-Based Learning
Students earn each certification by completing projects that demonstrate the required skills. Projects are selected and adjusted according to each student's age, experience, interests, and readiness.
This allows a curious elementary student to begin building an engineering foundation while giving an advanced middle school student room to tackle increasingly sophisticated challenges.Aenean eu justo sed elit dignissim aliquam.
