2023 SUMMER STEM CAMP

A Critical Thinking Program

Designed and taught by MIT engineers, the Critical Thinking Program integrates the subjects the students have learned in school in project-based learning, closes the gaps in essential skills, and prompts the students to solve problems with real-world perspectives. Age and level appropriate math will be integrated in the projects for each student.

How the Camp Works:

The students will choose the week(s) that they’d like to attend and vote for projects that they’d like to work on. The most chosen projects will be the focus of the camp. This summer the camp will focus on three themes. See details below.

Week 1: July 24 to July 28 | 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Week 2: July 31 to August 4 | 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

  • Students can choose to attend one week or both weeks.

  • Projects will conclude at the end of each week and will NOT repeat in the two weeks.

  • Lunch will be provided. Vegetarian options are available upon request.

  • Suitable for ages 7 to 12

  • Small group: 3 to 8 students

  • $975 for one week; $1,795 for both weeks. Fees include lunch and all materials, and are due BEFORE the camp starts.

  • $100 non-refundable deposit per week will be charged upon sign-up.

Candy Chemistry

Students will explore properties of chocolate and ingredients that make candies!! The project options include:

Project A

Chocolate mosaic arts using chocolate chips, through exploring their melting and hardening properties! The chocolate chips will be used as the “pixels” for the black-and-white picture design.

Project B

Lollipops art & chemistry using simple ingredients! Experience the fun of measuring and experimenting to make the coolest lollipops with different color patterns and flavors.

LED Decors

Students will explore electric circuits and laser cutting technology to make LED decorations that will brighten their rooms! The project options include:

Project C

Yarn LED decor that combines arts & crafts with electrical engineering! The end product will be a light decor that hangs from the ceiling.

Project D

Laser-cut LED decor through designing your own pictures, manufacturing it using the laser cutter, and assembling the decor piece! The end product will be a table-top decorative light piece.

Ukulele Engineering & Art

Wouldn’t it be fun to combine engineering, art, and music together?!

Project E

In this project, students will build a ukulele to learn the different components and their engineering; design the art and paint the instrument so it’s unique; and learn to play a simple song or two to get tarted with playing the instrument.
